« Tara Arctic 2007 – 2008 » – Arctic Ocean

Today, Tara has crossed the Arctic Ocean embedded in the pack ice. Onboard, the schooner’s crew and the scientists of Damocles are studying the impact of climate warming in the higher latitudes.

During this expedition, Tara has noticed the high acceleration of the pack ice melting in summer. The latter could disappear as soon as 2020. This would have a strong impact on our living conditions, the climate of earth, the Arctic wildlife and the indigenous populations of the circumpolar regions.

In 2009 and afterwards, Tara will continue to be committed to the planet and its poles of which the preservation is essential for mankind’s life.

You have the opportunity to participate personally in the story of Tara, the polar schooner.


Tara Explorations is an association created by the friends of Tara. At the heart of projects that commit the Tara schooner in the years to come, the association will help support their fulfilment. It will also contribute to the high profile of Tara by encouraging exhibitions, events and learning activities.
