Tara in an exhibition on the Poles in Belgium

Tara in an exhibition on the Poles in Belgium

If you missed the Paris Tara exhibition, you can still have an opportunity to discover part of Tara Arctic’s history, through the « Bipolar » exhibition at Brussels’ Atomium, from 29 January to 24 June 2009.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Atomium and of the 1958 Universal Exhibition, Bipolar offers you an exchange of views on the Arctic and Antarctic within the International Polar Year.

This exhibition is divided in two parts.

In the ARCTIC part, Bipolar deals with the inhabitants of the Greater North, the Tara expedition, the climatic refugees, as well as the evolution of the ice pack.
5 screens are dedicated to the Tara Arctic expedition with explications on the Tara drift, the chronology of the expedition, a portrait of the men on-board and the scientific results of the Damocles mission, a European scientific programme.

As far as the ANTARCTIC part is concerned, it broaches the treaty, the Antarctic and Belgium, geography, science, biodiversity and the princess Elisabeth base.

Atomium is open daily from 10.00 am to 18 pm.

This exhibition was created in collaboration with « Cité des Sciences ».
